Param Vir Chakra Award Is Presented on Republic Day

Which Award Is Presented During the Republic Day Parade: The Param Vira Chakra is the culmination of the Valor Award which recognizes acts of bravery and devotion beyond the call of duty in the face of the enemy. Established in 1950, it is India’s highest military decoration and is awarded for conspicuous bravery in the face of the enemy or for any act of great valor courage, or devotion.

It has been awarded 21 times, of which 20 were for the Indian army and 1 for the Indian Air Force.

1) Major Somnath Sharma was the first one to receive the battle of the Badgam War.
2) Jadunath Singh for Indo Pak war in 1947.
3) Rama Raghoba Rand for the Indo-Pak war in 1947.
4) Piru Singh for Indo Pak war in 1947.
5) Karam Singh for Indo Pak war in 1947
6) Gurbachan Singh Salaria for congo crisis.
7) Dhan Singh Thapa for sino – indian war
8) Joginder Singh for sino – indian war
9) Shaitan Singh for sino- indian war
10) Abdul Hamid for the battle of Asar Uttar
11) Ardeshir Tarapore for the battle of Chawinda
12) Albert Ekka for the Battle of Hill
13) Nirmal jeet singh sekhon for indo pak war in 1971
14) Arun Khetarpal for the battle of Basantar
15) Hoshiyar Singh Dahiya for Operation Rajiv

Mahavir Chakra

The Mahavira Chakra is the second-highest military decoration and is awarded for conspicuous acts of valor in the face of the enemy. While not as rare as the Param Vira Chakra, it still represents extraordinary courage and dedication to duty. The Mahavir Chakra is a testimony to the courage of the members of the armed forces in their duty.

It is received by 213 warriors. The most awarded was in the Indo-Pak war of 1971 where 11 medals were given to Indian air forces.

The first one to receive was Dewan Ranjit Rai for the Pak War of 1947.

Vir Chakra

The Vir Chakra is the third-highest gallantry award among Indian officers. Indicated for heroic actions in the face of the enemy. The award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exemplary courage and determination in the face of adversity in war or conflict.
It has been awarded 1335 times in all.
Major Somnath Sharma received the first vir chakra award.

Bravery Medals

On Republic Day, the country also honors the bravery of civilians and soldiers with gallantry medals. These include the Bravery Medal for acts of bravery in the face of the enemy, and the Army, Navy, and Air Force medals for gallantry and devotion to duty displayed in peacetime.
