Why Jharkhand is closed today? What are the possible reasons?

Following the former Chief Minister’s arrest on 31st January 2024, by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), calls for Jharkhand Bandh today, ie, 1st February.

The state has been getting a lot of attention as the Former CM was getting chased by the ED and on Wednesday evening he resigned from his post as a CM and is now under arrest. Champai Soren, the newly elected CM is a part of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.

Hemant Soren’s arrest last night triggered protests, the president of Kendriya Sarna Samiti, Ajay Tirkey has said that over 15-20 Tribal organizations will be a part of this mass protest. Amid these protests, government officials have called for Jharkhand Bandh on 1st February, ie, today.

As mentioned above, Jharkhand Bandh was announced, as protests were being taken because of the resignation of Hemant Soren as Chief Minister.

These will be opened despite the Jharkhand Bandh:

  • Schools and Colleges if opened, will not be disturbed and work with proper functioning.
  • Apart from schools and colleges, all emergency services will be provided and opened throughout the state. Services will be provided from all Hospitals.

What’s closed Today in regards to the Jharkhand Bandh?

Around 15 to 20 tribal communities are being a part of the protest. The protest might come out strong and violent. There is not much information regarding the protest or Jharkhand Bandh but there might be a possibility that shops and other businesses providing commercial services are expected to be closed.
To maintain discipline and law & order, police forces are on alert and extra forces are also deployed.
