Why is Mahashivratri celebrated?

Mahashivratri is a Hindu festival celebrated annually to honor the Hindu deity, Lord Shiva.   • Basil leaves
  • Coconut water
  • Flowers (red-colored flowers, Ketaki, Champa, and Kevda)
  • Kumkum and vermilion
  • Infected bael pan

Mahashivratri is the day to remember Lord Shiva, and it is celebrated by Hindus with great emotions. Here’s what you can do on Mahashivratri

  1. Observe Fast with fruits
  2. Meditate, as it is considered very auspicious to meditate on Shivratri because of the constellations.
  3. Chant Om Namah Shivaya and other mantras of Shiva.
  4. Attend pujas happening around the Mandirs.
  5. Worship the Shivling and provide offerings
  6. Make Thandai and offer it to lord Shiva, as it was considered the favorite drink of Shiva.
