The more big and serious reason is the lack of travel medium. As mentioned above there is only one airline that travels and that also gives only 70 seats per day.

The Only Aircraft
The state-owned Alliance Air operates exclusive flights to the islands from Kochi in Kerala. According to the report, the airline operates a 70-seat turboprop ATR72 aircraft. They fly every day.
Private airline Fly91 is licensed to fly to the islands under the UDA scheme. Agatti airport in Lakshadweep is likely to be expanded soon to increase the expected demand, TOI quoted Lakshadweep Additional District Magistrate Giri Sankar as saying.
He added that the islands may soon have a new terminal at Minicoy to accommodate Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft. Adding these aircraft to the fleet could expand the berths to up to 189 passengers at a time. A sea platform is also designed to maximize access to the islands.
Accommodation Status in Lakshadweep
The Bangaram resort is likely to expand its capacity to 62 rooms, nearly double what it has now.
Kamat and Suheli Islands are also expected to construct some premium resorts for travelers.
Tent Cities are being planned in Aggatti and Karavati Islands.
Ayodhya-based Praveg Tents has received the contract for a tent city in Lakshadweep.
