After the Ram Mandir Inauguration, people are curious to know what is the status of the Babri Masjid now, where is it located, the Mosque in Ayodhya New Design, the New Babri Masjid Construction Date, and a lot more.
Built in 1528–29, the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya faced being demolished in 1992, causing global civil unrest. The historic Hindu-Muslim conflict over this place at Ram Janmabhoomi still exists. Hindu devotees plan to inaugurate the mandir, and India’s Muslim minority, run by the Indian Islamic Cultural Foundation, aims to build a new mosque called the Muhammad bin Abdullah Mosque, signaling a fresh start… Construction is expected to begin in 2024.
Historical Beliefs
The Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, India had historical significance as a mosque, with inscriptions stating that it was built in 1528–29 (935 AH) by Mirbaki, a general under the Mughal emperor Babur, but its history took a turbulent turn in 1992 in 1914 when mobs attacked and demolished the temple, causing sectarian violence, which reverberated around the world.
Since the 18th century, the site has been a hotbed of ongoing disputes between the Hindu and Muslim communities. Many Hindus held the belief that the mosque was located on the Ram Janmbhoomi, which is thought to be the birthplace of Lord Rama, the most important deity of Hinduism. Beyond these historical conflicts, recent developments suggest that change is possible. Hindu devotees are preparing to inaugurate a large temple dedicated to one of their holy deities. At the same time, India’s Muslim minority plans to start construction of a new mosque in the same city later this year. The move by the Muslim community is seen as an attempt to usher in a new beginning after a long and often violent dispute that lasted for decades.
Here’s the Current Status of Babri Masjid
The current status of the mosque in Ayodhya, which is managed by the Indian Islamic and Cultural Foundation (IICF), includes a change in budget and a new vision for the construction of the mosque.

New leaders are appointed
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Haji Arfat Sheikh of Maharashtra was appointed as the new head of the mosque development committee in November 2023. He is at the forefront of implementing the new vision of the temple.
New design of the Mosque
Initial designs by Dr. Akhtar include a hospital, community kitchen, library, and research center. But the new vision aims to surpass the Taj Mahal, one of the largest mosques in India, built from designs by Pune-based architect Imran Sheikh. The mosque also has the world’s largest Quran, about 21 feet.
Other features of the Mosque
The mosque will retain the hospital and community kitchen from the original plan. It will be the first mosque in India to have five minarets and it is planned to feature a water light show. A mega fish tank larger than Dubai has also been proposed.
New Babri Masjid Construction Date
According to the sources, the construction will begin in 2024 but after Ramzan (a holy month for Muslims).
Change in the name
Firstly, the mosque was named masjid-e-Ayodhya but now it is named after the prophet ” Muhammad Bin Abdullah Masjid “.
Raising of Funds
IICF doesn’t plan to go door-to-door for donations but is launching a website with QR codes for easy donations. This approach is different from Vishva Hindu Parishad’s door-to-door fundraising for the Ram temple.
Promotional Strategies
Special songs and videos related to the mosque will be recorded and Vijay Vikram Singh, who is known for his voice work in the TV show Bigg Boss, will also be involved. The aim is to promote the Ayodhya mosque project widely.
What Is Going to Be the Name of the Mosque in Ayodhya?
Haji Arafat Sheikh, the new head of the mosque’s development committee, has decided to rename the mosque. The original name which was Masjid-e-Ayodhya, has now been changed to Muhammad Bin Abdullah Masjid. This new name refers to Prophet Muhammad, where “Bin Abdullah” means “son of Abdullah”, acknowledging the lineage of the Prophet. The decision to change the name reflects a deliberate choice to honor the mosque and connect it to the traditions and heritage of Islam, with an emphasis on its connection to the Prophet Muhammad.
Babri Masjid New Location
To build the new Babri Masjid, the government has given a new location in Dhannipur village, 18 kilometers from Ram Janmabhoomi Ayodhya and 30 kilometers by road from the original Babri Masjid location. The construction of the mosque will start after Ramzan in 2024.
